Shura Council participated in the second Counter-Terrorism Coordination Meeting for Parliamentary Assemblies, held Friday in Naples, Italy. The meeting was jointly organised by the Shura Council and Office of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Program on Parliamentary Participation in Preventing and Combating Terrorism (based in Doha). Members of the Shura Council HE Saad bin Ahmed al-Misned and HE Abdullah bin Nasser al-Subaei represented the Shura Council in the conference.

In his speech, HE al-Misned praised the efforts made by the UNOCT. He also praised the noble efforts made by Office of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Program on Parliamentary Participation in Preventing and Combating Terrorism which enjoys great support from the Government of Qatar and the Shura Council to carry out its duties to the full extent by assisting parliaments and parliamentarians in building their capacities and providing the appropriate conditions for exchanging experiences among themselves.
He noted the importance of holding this meeting to review the results of the first coordination meeting held in Doha last March. He pointed out the need to look at the results achieved to invest them in international efforts to combat and prevent terrorism and eliminate violent extremism, and to continue working to strengthen international solidarity against the scourge of terrorism and to coordinate the positions of parliaments in the international campaign against violence and terrorism, and dry up its sources.
Office of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Program on Parliamentary Participation in Preventing and Combating Terrorism started its activities in June last year, and despite its recent establishment -- only one year -- the office carried out a number of important and fruitful activities that provided great support to parliaments and parliamentarians around the world.
