Galfar Al Misnad has been awarded the RoSPA Gold Health and Safety Award 2022 from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), for demonstrating high health and safety standards in 2021.
The award was given at a ceremony in Dubai recently, where top companies in the region were felicitated for their health and safety achievements, the company said in a statement.
The event included guest speakers and an opening address from RoSPA president Baroness Jolly and CEO Errol Taylor, who handed over the award to Galfar’s Corporate HSE manager Venkatesan Kulandaivelu.
“This RoSPA Gold Award demonstrates the high standards of our company policy, our eagerness to improve, and desire to always aim for excellence in the health, safety and environmental management systems,” said Kulandaivelu.
This is the second RoSPA award for Galfar Al Misnad. The leading Qatari contractor had received the RoSPA Silver Award in 2021 for their safety performance and HSE initiatives taken during the year 2020. The further upgrading of their HSE activities and initiatives in 2021 led to the RoSPA Gold Award in 2022.
The latest award comes on the heels of Galfar Al Misnad’s recent receipt of British Safety Council’s International Safety Award for 2022, with Merit, for the company’s overall safety performance. Galfar Al Misnad also received the International Safety Award 2022 for the Roads and Infrastructure in Al Wajba East Project, being executed for Ashghal.
This is the sixth consecutive year in which Galfar Al Misnad is winning the International Safety Award; and the eighth time overall. The company has received the award in the Merit category four times, and two times in the Distinction category. In addition, two of Galfar Al Misnad projects have received the award in the Distinction category, one of which went on to be declared as the Best in Country for 2021. Galfar Al Misnad has been operating in Qatar for more than 26 years.
“As a testimony to our efforts in HSE, we had the honour of being felicitated recently by HE the Minister of Labour Dr Ali bin Saeed bin Smaikh al-Marri at the Occupational Safety and Health Conference," pointed out Satish G Pillai, executive director, Galfar Al Misnad.
