One would think that the ongoing French Open would be the biggest show in town for Diego Schwartzman but the Argentine is desperate to be somewhere else in Paris tonight.
Schwartzman, a former top 10 player, has already reached the fourth round at the claycourt Grand Slam and his eyes have turned to the Stade de France in the northern part of Paris which will play host to today’s Champions League final.
Schwartzman implored tennis organisers yesterday to find him a ticket to the showdown between England’s Liverpool and Spain’s Real Madrid.
Asked at his press conference yesterday if he wanted to go to the match, the 29-year-old said with a big grin on his face: “A chance to ask who has tickets for me.
“So Roland Garros, please ask for tickets for tomorrow. I know you can do it. President of Roland Garros, president of the Federation. I can go alone, eh? It’s okay.”
Schwartzman, who will play Novak Djokovic in the next round of the French Open after the world number one won his third- round match yesterday, said he loved football and he loved watching big matches.
“These past few days I was following just my team, Boca Juniors. We won the league in Argentina. We won yesterday. So we went through in the Copa Libertadores,” he continued.
“So now it’s time to Champions League. But it’s going to be a great match. Everyone who is here is not from Liverpool or Real Madrid. We are going to enjoy.
“One more time, if you have any tickets, I will be there tomorrow.”

Kyrgios turns down $1mn dollar challenge
Nick Kyrgios has turned down a $1mn challenge from Bernard Tomic to sort out their differences on court as the Australian tennis players continue their spat yesterday.
Kyrgios described Tomic as the most hated athlete in Australia when the pair exchanged barbs over who was the better player on Instagram on Wednesday night.
Tomic, who won their only professional meeting at Kooyong in 2019, returned serve by offering to put up a million dollars for a one-on-one contest.
“At the end of the day, talk is cheap,” Tomic told the Sydney Morning Herald. “I’m ready to make it 2-0 whenever you want. Put your money where your mouth is. Let the public decide who is better. I’ll beat you anywhere, any place. If not, shut your mouth and go back to playing doubles.
“I’ll dominate you one-on-one,” he added. “To not make excuses, I’ll even play you on grass, whenever you want. You know what? Let’s sort this out in the boxing ring. Put your gloves on, I’ll dominate you there also. Let’s see who’s better once and for all.”
Kyrgios did not rule out a boxing bout one day but said the world number 418 would have to work his way back up the rankings to get on court with him.
“I’m still playing on the tour, my brother. I’ve got bigger fish to fry,” the world number 76 said in an Instagram video.
“If you want to play me and you want to set this straight, just get back to the top of the sport. I’m right here, I’m not going anywhere.”
Kyrgios won his first Grand Slam doubles title at the Australian Open this year and also reached the singles quarter-finals at the $8.5mn Indian Wells tournament.
One-time prodigy Tomic, who reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals as a teenager, most recently lost in the first round of a $53,120 event in Mexico on the second tier Challenger tour. Neither player is at the French Open in Paris but both are looking to contest next month’s Wimbledon.
