Grand Mall will open its sixth hypermarket in Qatar and 80th outlet worldwide, in Mekaines on Wednesday, May 25, it was announced in Doha.
“Grand Mall group has grown into a successful global brand, particularly in the Middle East," managing director Dr Anwar Ameen Chelat told a press conference.
Regional director Ashraf Cherakkal, joint venture partner Bin Yousef Group chief operating officer David Ford, director Mohamed N V, general manager Ajith Kumar, and other team members were present.
"The launch comes ahead of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022,” Dr Chelat said. “Besides international brands, Grand Mall offers products made by local manufacturers and producers.”
Shoppers can easily access the group’s sixth outlet, conveniently located across 55,000sq ft in Mekaines, Exit 37 Salwa Expressway that heads to Abu Samra, with ample parking facilities.
“Our customers’ support validates our slogan ‘Grand Shopping, Great Values’, which has been our motto since beginning of Grand Mall,” he said.

The official spoke about health and hygiene protocols followed by Grand Mall Hypermarkets, particularly during the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
“We ensured health, safety and hygiene standards after several pilot tests,” he elaborated. “We developed a sanitised, hygienic method to deliver products by installing advanced foodstuff packaging facilities in all regions to supply touch-free, high-quality eatables, lentils, spices, and other products.”
Dr Chelat thanked the government and local authorities for their support. “The Qatar government’s initiatives and policies has helped us boost our business ties in various nations.”
Grand Mall regional director Cherakkal said: “Customer insights and behavioural data helped us write our retail strategy.”
“This resulted in satisfying customer experiences and pulled in an average footfall of more than 30,000 customers daily in our outlets in Qatar,” he said. “Our company vision and focus has evolved Grand Mall into a grand enterprise with over 80 outlets, 6,000 employees, serving an average of 300,000 customers daily, globally.”
