Aiming to explore opportunities to cooperate in various ?elds of mutual interest, Qatar University (QU) and University Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU).
The agreement was signed by Prof. Mariam al-Maadeed, Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies at QU and Prof Dr Mazlan Abd Ghaffar, Vice Chancellor of UMT.
The event was attended by Dr Noraini Ahmad, Minister of Higher Education Malaysia; Zamshari Shaharan, Ambassador of Malaysia to Qatar; Dr. Mohd Zabri bin Yusoff, Deputy Secretary General (Management and Development); Shah Headan bin Ayoob Hussain Shah, Political Secretary at Ministry of Higher Education; Noorazah binti Omar, Undersecretary International Relations Division; Prof Dr Wan Hisham bin Wan Salleh, Member of University Board of Directors (LPU), UMT; Prof Ts Dr Mohd Ekhwan bin Haji Toriman,Vice Chancellor of UKM and Prof Dr Mhd Ikhwanuddin Abdullah, Director of Fisheries and Tropical Aquaculture Institute (AKUATROP), UMT.
The aim of this MoU to explore opportunities to co-operate in various ?elds of mutual interest. This co-operation will include; Exchange of students and researchers in the form of research attachment, sabbatical, mobility and summer school programmes; Expert training and workshop programmes; Joint research and development in the form of matching grants and joint grant/fund applications; Joint implementation of semi/industrial benchmarks related to food security, climate change and green technologies; Dual MSc and PhD degrees; joint organisation of conferences, seminars, courses and joint supervision of postgraduate students
Commenting on the signing, Prof al-Maadeed said: “This is an important visit that reflects our continuous collaboration with Malaysia, we have exclusive collaboration especially in field of research. I am really proud of this collaboration which focuses on ?elds of mutual interest, this MoU will enhance joint research and development in the form of matching grants and joint grant applications.”
Commenting on the signing, Prof Dr Mazlan Abd Ghaffar said: “This is a historic moment for both of the parties today. We have joint research collaboration between QU and UMT in the field of food security. We focus on projects which will help us save the environment. I would like to thank Qatar University for hosting us today and joining hands with us on such meaningful projects which will lead us towards better future.”
