Chair of the European Parliament Subcommittee on Human Rights (DROI) Marie Arena hailed the reforms in Qatar's labour market over the past few years, QNA reported from Brussels.
In a statement following her participation in a workshop organised by the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) under the title "The European Union and Human Rights", Arena said that many reforms have been adopted in the labour market in Qatar, adding that these reforms included the abolition of the kafala (sponsorship) system, freedom of workers to change jobs, setting up of a minimum wage, health and safety mechanisms in the workplace, and other measures.
She also stressed that these reforms are very important, expressing hope that the reform process in the labour market will continue to meet future challenges and ensure the sustainability of long-term investment in providing good working conditions.
