His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and Spanish Prime Minister Dr Pedro Sanchez held Wednesday an official talks session at the government headquarters at the Palace of Moncloa in Madrid.
At the outset of the session, the Spanish prime minister welcomed the Amir and his accompanying delegation, praising His Highness' visit to Spain as historic and the significant results it will have at all levels and aspects of bilateral co-operation.
He said that Spain considers His Highness the Amir a true and important friend, and Qatar a reliable partner, adding that he looks forward to discussing with His Highness the relations of friendship and co-operation between the two countries and ways to enhance them.
For his part, His Highness the Amir highlighted the historic and strong ties between Qatar and Spain, praising the progress the two countries are making in all fields of bilateral cooperation.
His Highness the Amir also expressed his deep appreciation for the Spanish prime minister for the good reception he and the accompanying delegation received, adding that the talks will contribute to increase bilateral co-operation to match the two countries' ambitions.






The session dealt with enhancing bilateral co-operation in various fields, especially in politics, energy, economy, investment, trade, commerce and culture, in addition to the most prominent regional and international developments of joint interest.
The session was attended by HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, HE the Chief of the Amiri Diwan Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, HE the Minister of Finance Ali bin Ahmed al-Kuwari, HE the Minister of State for Energy Affairs Saad bin Sherida al-Kaabi, HE the Minister of Commerce and Industry Sheikh Mohamed bin Hamad bin Qassim al-Abdullah al-Thani.
On the Spanish side, it was attended by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Digitalisation Nadia Calvino, Minister for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge Teresa Ribera, Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Co-operation Jose Manuel Albares Bueno, Minister of Industry, Trade, and Tourism Reyes Maroto, and a number of senior officials.
His Highness the Amir and the Spanish prime minister witnessed the signing of an agreement and a number of memorandums of understanding (MoU) between the governments of the two countries.
They also witnessed the signing of an agreement for co-operation in education, and MoUs for co-operation in the legal field between the Qatari and Spanish ministries of justice and in the fields of health and medical sciences, and a declaration of intent to enhance the development of co-operation in economy and finance between the Ministry of Finance in Qatar and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation in Spain.
His Highness the Amir and the prime minister also witnessed the signing of an MoU on military co-operation between the two countries' defence ministries, an MoU for co-operation in science and innovation between the Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Council and the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, and an MoU between the Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Council and the Spanish Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology.
They also witnessed the signing of an MoU between the Qatar Investment Authority and the Spanish Investment Fund, and an MoU for co-operation between Qatar University and four Spanish universities ( La Universidad Autonoma de Madrid, Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona, Carlos III University, and Pompeu de Fabra Madrid University).
The signing ceremony was witnessed by members of the official delegation accompanying the Amir, and a number of Spanish ministers and senior officials.
The Amir attended a luncheon banquet hosted by Prime Minister Sanchez in honour of the Qatari delegation.

Amir ends visit to Spain

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani left Madrid Wednesday after a state visit to Spain. He was seen off at Adolfo Suarez MadridBarajas Airport by Deputy Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Co-operation Luis Cuesta Civis, Qatar's ambassador to Spain Abdullah bin Ibrahim al-Hamar, Spanish ambassador to Qatar Belen Alfaro Hernandez, a number of senior Spanish civil and military officials, and members of the Qatari embassy.
The Amir sent a cable to King Felipe VI of Spain, and Prime Minister Dr Sanchez, expressing appreciation for the hospitality and honour accorded to him and the accompanying delegation during the visit, which provided the opportunity to meet with His Majesty and the Prime Minister, discussing with them aspects of supporting and developing friendship and co-operation relations between the two countries in various fields for the good and interest of the two friendly peoples, expressing appreciation and wishes to the King and the Prime Minister good health and happiness, and to the friendly Spanish people further progress and prosperity.
