The Centre for Geographic Information Systems (CGIS) under the Ministry of Municipality in collaboration with Mannai Trading Company and Esri Inc will mark the annual GIS Technology Day celebrations on Thursday at Sheraton Grand Doha.
A ministry statement explained that GIS professionals from from public sector organisations and universities are to attend. GIS is a scientific framework for gathering, analysing, and visualising geographic data to help make better decisions. The occasion aspires to help the community understand and share how advancement in geospatial science in real world applications are making an impact in various industry and technology domains.
“Sharing GIS knowledge and technology with Qatar’s community has been the key goal of CGIS, combined with integration and collaboration of technology. The event will share how Geospatial Technology has helped make a difference in the world we live in, deep dive into Qatar’s GIS success stories and explore growth over the years,” the statement noted.
The ongoing infrastructure development in preparation for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and Qatar National vision 2030 has set higher demands for updated and discrete information products. CGIS’ national mapping strategy lays the foundation to achieve Qatar’s growing GeoSpatial needs by adopting smart technologies to capture, process and share information instantly.
“With location intelligence embedded in decision-making processes, we are striving to build an efficient, connected and smart community with improved quality of life, leading to national growth and innovation”, CGIS director Manaf AlSada added in the statement.
