Slovenian (non-resident) ambassador to Qatar Mateja Prevolsek stressed that His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani's visit to Slovenia is an important opportunity to strengthen bilateral relations and develop areas of co-operation between her country and Qatar. In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), she said that the visit comes at a time when the two countries are celebrating the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year.
"Throughout this period, we enjoyed friendly relations, marked by a large number of high-level visits in both directions as well as the meetings on the margins of international events. The meetings held and discussions conducted during this period reflect good understanding and mutual interest for cooperation on both sides," the ambassador said. She stressed that the Amir's visit offers both sides an opportunity to further examine possibilities of strengthening economic and investment co-operation.
The exchanged visits between the two sides, the latest of which was by the Slovenia president to Qatar last March, reflect the common interest in co-operation in various fields and the exchange of political positions on various topics of mutual interest, including exchange on current global affairs, as is the Russian-Ukrainian war.
The two countries also hold regular political consultations between their foreign ministries, with the last round held in August 2021 in Ljubljana.
She stressed that the areas of co-operation are numerous, as Slovenia is focusing on a "Green, Creative, Smart" economy that supports innovation and creates many opportunities to enhance co-operation in the field of green technology, waste and water management, IT, furniture industry, energy, engineering, healthcare and rehabilitation, logistics and distribution and other niche areas in which Slovenian companies excel such as robotics, fin-tech, cyber security, and biotechnology.
