The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in co-operation with Qatar Development Bank, organised a workshop to introduce the barcode office in Doha "GS1 Qatar" and the global barcode, within the framework of supporting and backing the national economy through the industrial and service sectors.
The workshop focused on introducing the global barcoding organisation GS1 and the advisory services it provides for Qatari companies, in addition to introducing the global barcode standards (GS1 System), and the rules for granting global barcodes for products, services and places.
The workshop also introduced the barcode office in Qatar (GS1 Qatar) and the services it provides to Qatari companies in order to spread awareness and familiarise local companies and institutions with the unified global barcode standards system and the mechanisms for its application in supply chains to serve the various sectors in the State of Qatar.
The workshop also included an explanation of the global barcode and tracking system, after the State of Qatar obtained the code 630 for locally-made products that can be exported or even traded within the country.
Director of Export Development Department at Qatar Development Bank and CEO of GS1 Qatar Ali Sultan al-Kuwari said that the opening of GS1 Qatar comes in implementation of the wise directions of the State and Qatar National Vision 2030 which aims at achieving sustainable development through economic growth.
Al-Kuwari noted that the adoption of the unified global standards system among Qatari institutions and companies contributes to unifying the language of global trade, facilitating export operations, and building a reliable global database of Qatari products and services.
He added that Qatar Development Bank established GS1 Qatar as a member of the global organisation GS1 in June 2021 with the aim of co-operating in building an advanced infrastructure capable of serving national industries and responding to their future needs.
He expressed his hope that these steps would contribute to achieving a qualitative leap in the economic sectors and increasing the domestic product of the State of Qatar through the marketing of Qatari products and services locally and globally.
