His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani has sent a cable of congratulations to his brother Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed al-Nahyan on his election as President of the United Arab Emirates, wishing him and the brotherly Emirati people further progress and growth.
His Highness the Deputy Amir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad al-Thani and HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz al-Thani have also sent similar cables of congratulations to Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed al-Nahyan.
Earlier, the UAE Ministry of Presidential Affairs announced that, pursuant to Article 51 of the Constitution, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed al-Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, was unanimously elected as President of the United Arab Emirates to succeed the late Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan.
The Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported that the Supreme Council of the UAE held a meeting Saturday at Al Musharraf Palace in Abu Dhabi, headed by Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, Vice-President of the United Arab Emirates, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai where the Council unanimously elected Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed al-Nahyan, President of the UAE.
