The Criminal Investigation Department at the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation arrested a gang of five pickpockets, who hailed from some Asian countries, for stealing money and personal belongings.
As the department received some complaints regarding the theft of personal belongings and pickpocketing while moving in crowded places, a specialised team was immediately formed to conduct searches and investigations and gather information, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said in a statement on social media yesterday.
As a result, the team arrested five persons, and they confessed to the charges against them.
Accordingly, the items found in their possession were seized and recorded, and the accused were referred to the competent prosecution to complete the legal procedures against them.
The competent authorities at the MoI have called on the public to pay attention, take care of personal belongings while moving in crowded places, and report any suspicious acts by calling the emergency service at 999 or through the Metrash2 app.
