Qatar University (QU) in co-operation with Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, Monday hosted the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour.
Students and faculty members of QU had the opportunity to see the World Cup original trophy up close and take photos.
The tour, was organised as part of the efforts to promote the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, boost fans’ enthusiasm to watch the tournament matches and support their favorite teams, as well as instill a football culture in the community in preparation for the biggest football event of its kind.

On the occasion QU president Dr Hassan al-Derham, said: “Qatar University holds responsibility to support all the projects of Qatar. We are holding the iconic FIFA World Cup trophy tour at our university for the QU community to enjoy and click pictures.
"The university has conducted research, studies, seminars and meetings in regard to the FIFA World Cup 2022. QU had modified its plans to match this important event. It will also host the Argentina national team, which has chosen QU as its headquarters during the tournament, given its sports facilities equipped with the latest specifications, and modern housing units.”
For his part, Dr Hitmi Khalifa al-Hitmi, Director of Communication and Public Relations, said: “Qatar University hosting FIFA World Cup trophy tour has signified university’s role in promoting the global sporting event a success.
“As Qatar University participates in this event, it is fulfilling its responsibilities as a national higher education institution. We all must do our best to provide the best that our generations can be proud of and which will motivates them to do better in future.”
QU had earlier welcomed the Argentine team’s choice of campus for the 2022 World Cup. The Argentine team is in the same group, which includes Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Poland, and a delegation from the team visited the university and inspected all facilities and stadiums.
QU recently organised three seminars to introduce the volunteering programme for the 2022 World Cup, in co-operation with the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy. The programme, which will allow volunteering in more than 30 functional areas, in addition to providing those wishing to volunteer with experience from specialists and volunteers from different cultures and backgrounds.
