Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) has announced that the total number of passengers on the Doha Metro and Lusail Tram networks during the Eid al-Fitr break, from May 2 to 5, reached approximately 735,000, including 540,000 passengers during the temporary Corniche Street closure from May 3 to 5.
During this period, the total Metro ridership recorded 705,000, while Lusail Tram transported 30,000 passengers. The public used the Metro and Tram services to get to malls, parks and other leisure destinations covered by the networks.

As a result of people using Doha Metro during that period, there were 150,000 fewer cars on Doha’s roads, along with a 200-tonne reduction in CO2 emissions.
Further to this, Doha Metro stations located in the Corniche area recorded 400,000 passengers during the temporary Corniche Street closure between May 3 and 5. Stations, including National Museum, Souq Waqif, Msheireb, Al Bidda, Corniche, West Bay Qatar Energy & DECC, witnessed a large turnout of passengers, Qatar Rail said in a statement Monday.

May 3 was the second busiest day since the opening of Doha Metro, with a total of 250,000 passengers across the 37 stations of the network. Some 190,000 passengers were received at the seven stations located within the Corniche area alone.
It is worth noting that the highest ridership in a single day was recorded in 2019 on National Day, when Doha Metro carried 330,000 passengers.

Over the three-day period of temporary closure, some Metro stations saw more than 10 times the normal passenger traffic. Corniche and Souq Waqif stations were the busiest, while Al Bidda station, located within walking distance from the Eid Festival, also witnessed an exceptional turnout of people attending the festival.
"Despite the heavy traffic, there was no change to our outstanding safety and security record," Qatar Rail said.
At the same time, the metrolink and metroexpress services continued to transport passengers throughout the Corniche area. The two services provided alternative routes during the closure period, which helped transport the public around the Corniche area, allowing them to reach their destinations easily.

In addition, Park & Ride facilities around Metro stations made it easy for the public to park their cars and resume their journeys to the key destinations across the network.
"This confirms the integral role of Doha Metro in enhancing the public transport system, providing an effective alternative means of transportation. In addition, Doha Metro aids the free flow of traffic, mitigating congestion, especially during temporary road closures," the statement added.
