The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) launched a survey in early April 2022, targeting all local companies providing Information Technology (IT) products and services.
The survey was part of a large-scale strategic CRA research study aimed at building measurements and a comprehensive understanding of Qatar’s IT industry and on the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector.
The study comes in the context of global rapid technological developments and features in the IT industry as a critical enabler of innovation across sectors and as a driver of economic growth and diversification, social prosperity, and environmental sustainability.
The survey’s theme covered various related aspects, including market landscape, governance and regulations, infrastructure, research and development, innovation, funding, and talent. The data and information collected through the survey will help build insights into the existing ICT landscape and highlight challenges and development opportunities for the future of the sector.
Also, it will contribute to CRA’s efforts on building targeted government initiatives and an effective regulatory framework for the ICT sector in support of sector growth and leveraging its potential.
CRA has reached out to more than 1,000 companies, so far, including startups. The survey, which is being held online and face-to-face, will run until June 30. It can be accessed at www.cra.gov.qa. CRA encourages and highly values the participation of local IT companies in the survey, according to a statement.
As part of the research study, CRA held an IT roundtable event in March with the presence and participation of HE the Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mohamed bin Ali al-Mannai, along with senior representatives of the IT sector, government entities, and academia.
The event hosted an interactive discussion of industry leaders and exchanged views and experiences about the local industry development. Moving forward and along with the survey, CRA will continue working and engaging with key players and stakeholders in the sector through in-depth interviews and targeted workshops, it said.
