Allow me to begin this article by mentioning a phrase by His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani during his speech on the occasion of the twentieth session of the Doha Forum under the slogan “Transition to a New Era”:
“The new era we dream of – and the era I personally work for – is the era of peace, security, and coexistence for all, the era of social justice, in which all people have access to their basic needs that includes access to education, health, water and other resources, to live in harmony.
Qatar, as a role model to many countries always shines by knowing how to address major issues: through the adaptation of the right measures to accomplish better results that will benefit the entire society. Doha, the capital of major conferences and forums that attracts the world’s attention has continuously gathered more than 140 nationalities yearly under the banner of Diplomacy, Dialogue, and Diversity that promotes the exchange of ideas and knowledge, a valuable platform for the world that is currently experiencing difficulties to overcome.
Undoubtedly, these meetings offered by the Doha Forum, bring together many leaders, politicians, ministers, and academics from all over the world to discuss several core topics and share the same goals of achieving concrete solutions to the world. Doha Forum is not only a meeting forum, but it is considered one of the most successful and global platforms for dialogue, bringing together leaders in policy to build innovative and action-driven networking event. A summit of leaders who have in their power those positions to promote common goals for the benefit of the world’s population.
Although the forums have been in effect for a long time on the international scene, the Doha Forum has succeeded in positioning itself in an exciting place with results for all to see.
These previous forums were related to private International Law dating from the early 1920s, such as the International Forum in The Hague; these days we find ourselves with a reality that demands meetings and face to face dialogues to deal with major issues that require a solution in the shortest possible time. We have been able to observe this during the Doha Forum, which has certainly gained prestige over the years.
For what we have had the pleasant opportunity to attend, I have been able to confirm the relevance of the topic discussed and how it has been possible to make known at a global level what we need to do as actors, and policy makers in all its conceptions, not only as states but also as natural persons or legal entities to continue in the same consensual direction. I reiterate for the well-being of all communities; therefore, to the human species, which at certain times has to face adverse situations.
The Doha Forum brings an atmosphere of interactive and fruitful dialogue and discussion, and solutions for many visions, ideas, and theories that were put into place. It has a promising future, shared by all the people of this world, and here we stand in solidarity which I would like to touch upon, the importance of the Qatari approach in resolving international disputes by peaceful means that secure human dignity and rights, to protect people’s safety and safeguard the world from wars and conflicts for a better promising future for the generations to come.
Forums are significant as they promote an interconnected world by bringing together some of the world’s most influential voices who not only play a major role within their society but for the rest of the world.
Let us not forget that thanks to the Father Amir His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani’s idea in 2000, which had a futuristic conception for his country to offer to collaborate in this dialogue platform to try to resolve adverse situations that affect nations, especially in development processes.
About 20 sessions were held on the first day on the geopolitical implications of the situation in the region and other regions that mobilise to maintain national and regional security against the effects of conflicts that occur in various countries of the world.
Also, the threats of climate change and the international organisation stimulate technological advances to mitigate these changes that are the reason for coexistence on the planet.
The rich discussions that were characterised by objectivity, transparency, and depth, provided the world with a model for a culture of constructive and fruitful dialogue, and the extent of its importance and necessity.
We cannot fail to mention that post-Covid-19 period represents a challenge to readapt new plans and implement policies to return or improve our relations in all fields of development. Many measures were implemented accordingly. As a result, it is necessary to try to adjust to the normality and confront all the upcoming problems that the world might face.
Qatar has been a country that has been timely aware of this situation for 10 years, implementing sustainability projects because it is and will be a relevant topic in all international meetings.
As a Peruvian, it was an honour to be part of such international platform witnessing the hard work and dedication that Qatar put into organising such a successful global event under the banner “Diplomacy, Dialogue and Diversity”
in order to achieve a continuous dialogue amongst all nations and decision makers, for more innovation, interlinked ideas, and concrete decisions for a better tomorrow.
