Palestinian leaders demand end to Israeli violations
Palestinian Prime Minister Mohamed Shtayyeh has affirmed that Al-Aqsa Mosque in its entirety is the property and right of Muslims and it cannot be divided in any way.
In a statement carried by the Palestinian News Agency (WAFA) Sunday, Shtayyeh said Israel’s Naftali Bennett government wants to export its internal crisis at the expense of the Palestinian people by doubling settlement, attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque, killing and siege with the aim of imposing temporal and spatial division in the blessed mosque.
Shtayyeh affirmed that the issue of Palestinian detainees is a top priority for the Palestinian leadership, and it will not abandon any captive despite all the pressures it is exposed to.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas discussed during a telephone call with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the latest developments and the dangerous Israeli aggression against the Palestinian territories, particularly Jerusalem.
They also discussed Israel’s incessant escalations at the Al-Aqsa Mosque and violation of the freedom of worship at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, Palestinian news agency (WAFA) reported.
President Abbas cautioned against the seriousness of the repeated attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque and desecration of the holy month of Ramadan, which he stressed cannot be tolerated.
He called on the international community to promptly intervene to stop the Israeli aggression and provide international protection for the Palestinian people.
He added that the Palestinian leadership is undertaking intensive consultations to take the necessary decisions required for the implementation of the recent decisions of the Palestinian Central Council.
For his part, the Turkish president affirmed his country’s position in support of the Palestinian people’s rights and rejection of Israeli attacks against the Palestinian people and their holy sites, particularly against the Al-Aqsa Mosque and worshippers.
He noted that Turkey will contact the relevant parties to stop the Israeli escalation and ensure respect for the sanctity of holy sites.
On Friday, at least 152 Palestinians were wounded in clashes with Israeli riot police inside the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, the latest outbreak in an upsurge of violence that has raised fears of a slide back to wider conflict.
