The Zakat Fund, at the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, announced that last March it provided aid worth QR 26,448,237, benefiting 3,886 families in Qatar.
According to the fund statement, these amounts included periodic aid and lump-sum assistance, all of which are disbursed by the fund's administration to eligible families registered with it in accordance with Shariah regulations.
The value of the periodic aid provided on a monthly basis to eligible families amounted to QR9,671,893, while the value of the lump-sum aid, given once or more according to the families' need, was QR6,128, 544.
The charity's basket aid for the month of Ramadan stood at QR10,647,800. The fund has been disbursing the aid every year to eligible families before the holy month to provide for their needs for the month of Ramadan.
The director of the Zakat Fund Department, Jassim Muhammad Al Kubaisi, said the fund is keen to provide the charitable basket assistance annually before the month of Ramadan, and begins distributing it to the beneficiaries after the middle of the month of Shaban, so that families can buy their food and drink needs in preparation for the blessed month of Ramadan.
In response to requests from the public and the beneficiaries and in order to facilitate the procedure, the Zakat Fund opens its doors from 9am to 1:30 pm, and from 8.30pm to 11.30pm during the blessed month of Ramadan. (QNA)
