Energy Intelligence, the world’s leading energy information company, has named HE the Minister of State for Energy Affairs Saad bin Sherida al-Kaabi, also President and CEO of QatarEnergy, as the ‘Energy Executive of the Year’ for 2022.
HE al-Kaabi was elected by the leaders of the world’s top energy companies on the Energy Intelligence Top 100 rankings, making him the 26th winner of this prestigious award.
In announcing the award, Energy Intelligence said it “recognises al-Kaabi’s pivotal role in developing Qatar’s world-leading natural gas capabilities over the last decade, and his timely and ambitious decisions to ensure the country remains dominant in global LNG for decades to come.”
A statement by Energy Intelligence acknowledged al-Kaabi’s leadership saying he is “widely recognised for his foresight in embarking on a major expansion of Qatari LNG, capitalising on its low-cost, low-carbon advantages. Today, Qatar is positioned as an indispensable gas supplier for countries seeking diversification and security of supplies.
“Al-Kaabi’s bold bet on the future of gas has positioned Qatar to be the world’s LNG supplier of choice. His decision to go large on energy investments at home and abroad ensures that Qatar stays a step ahead of its competition.”
“But the centrepiece of al-Kaabi’s strategy involved a massive development of the North Field, the world’s largest non-associated gas field, which will expand Qatar’s LNG production capacity by nearly 65%. This has attracted keen interest from the world’s largest energy companies, many of which have greatly benefited from their equity stakes in the current 77mn tonnes per year of capacity,” said Energy Intelligence.
The award will be presented to al-Kaabi at the annual Energy Intelligence Forum, which will be held in October.
The selection process for the ‘Energy Executive of the Year’ award – formerly known as the Petroleum Executive of the Year award – is administered by Energy Intelligence.
The group gathers nominations from the heads of the world’s 100 largest oil and gas companies and stakeholders, as determined by the annual Energy Intelligence Top 100 rankings.
Winners are chosen by a vote of the selection committee, comprised of previous award winners and senior industry executives.
