Ibtechar, a leading innovation and turnkey solutions firm, participated in the Smart City Expo Doha 2022, the global platform dedicated to discussing, tackling and solving the challenges that faces the cities of tomorrow.
Held over two days in Msheireb, the international event brought together experts from around the globe to share ideas and insights on how to create a better and more sustainable future for cities and their citizens.
It was a chance for visitors to know about the services and technologies provided by the exhibitors, including Ibtechar, the country’s first incubated company that has a decade of achievements in innovation development, programmes and spaces.
At its booth, Ibtechar showcased some of the best of its achievements, which have received wide recognition and won notable awards at international ceremonies, the company said in a statement.
The feature project presented is the drone tracking system, a joint project with Barzan Holdings to ensure the security of critical infrastructure and VIPs in Qatar, as part of the government’s strategy to invest in emerging technologies, security solutions and modern technology localisation towards the knowledge-based economy sought by Qatar National Vision 2030, the statement noted.
Under the theme of 'Smart City: Smart Generations', the public could visit the Sanea STEM Station, where Ibtechar showed off its Sanea programme, a competition launched in 2015 as a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Qatar Scientific Club, and other sponsors. It involves annual activities to introduce school students to the making process, inspire them to use technology to solve real-world problems, and train them in prototyping using their own ideation and creativity.
In a statement, Nayef al-Ibrahim, co-founder and CEO of Ibtechar, said: “We are happy to take part in the Smart City Expo, hosted by Doha in its capacity as a pioneer of smart cities. Today, we display a locally developed product: the drone tracking system. It is a technological solution produced by the company’s own dedicated team of researchers and technologists with extensive knowledge and expertise in applied research and counter-drone systems.
“There is also the Sanea STEM Station, which focuses on developing the next generation under the theme ‘Smart Cities: Smart Generations’. It presents the programme's tailored tools, curricula and training designed to promote a culture of making and practical innovation among the youth, by introducing them to 3D printing, CNC milling, laser cutting, vinyl cutting, augmented reality, virtual reality, robotics and electronics.
“Ibtechar is one of the main players in promoting the Fourth Industrial Revolution in Qatar and across the region, playing a central role in the localisation and deployment of new technologies into different sectors."
During his tour of the exhibition, HE Mohamed bin Ali al-Mannai, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, visited Ibtechar’s booth, where he was welcomed by al-Ibrahim.
HE al-Mannai had an overview of the activities of Ibtechar and learned about the strengths and specifications of the drone tracking system. Then, he watched a demonstration of how to operate the system and receive data from it, by displaying the drone itself, its serial number, the commercial frequency used, and motion details (speed, altitude, azimuth, path, etc).
