Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), represented by the Pharmacy Department, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the College of Pharmacy at the National University of Science and Technology ( NU), Oman. The MoU covers areas of cooperation in the fields of scientific research projects, training, and other common areas between the two parties.
The MoU was signed during a virtual meeting by HMC, represented by Dr Moza al-Hail, executive director of HMC’s Pharmacy Department, Muna Shaheen al-Homaidi, executive director of HMC’s Human Resources, Nasser Abdullah al-Sawafi, assistant executive director of HMC’s Human Resources, and Enas Adnan, training and development manager at HMC. NU was represented, by Dr Ali al-Bimani, president of the university, Dr Khaled al-Bloushi, dean of the College of Pharmacy at the University, Dr Nidaa al-Wadi and a number of administrators and faculty from the Omani side.
The MoU covers a number of areas of cooperation between the two parties which will include providing students of the College of Pharmacy at NU with hands-on training in clinical pharmacology and mentoring these students by competent staff at HMC’s healthcare facilities. It also covers student and researcher exchange programmes, conducting joint research studies, organising scientific events and conferences, and training workshops.
Fatima Haidar, HMC’s chief human resources officer, stated that the MoU will promote cooperation in many fields between the two leading parties and will be an exemplary partnership that will serve the interests of both signatories. Haidar stressed the importance of the MoU for the potential exchange of knowledge and expertise, particularly in the training, science, and research. She expressed confidence that the cooperation between the two parties will yield fruitful results.
The cooperation pledge between the two parties is an example of the partnership between academic and healthcare organisations in both countries, aimed at improving training standards for pharmacy graduates and empowering them with the knowledge and skills in various pharmacologic domains to be able to excel in their future career.
Dr al-Hail noted that pharmacy students will be trained as per the highest academic and the professional principles applied at pharmacies across HMC facilities under the supervision of highly-trained and experienced pharmacists, where the students will be qualified and able to add value to the healthcare sector in Oman. She reiterated the two parties’ commitment to organising scientific seminars and conferences, training workshops, professional development programmes, joint research studies, and student and researchers exchange programmes between the two parties.
The Training and Professional Development Section at HMC’s Human Resources Department manages clinical attachment and training in coordination with various HMC Departments and students / graduates and candidate employees in order to develop their skills in various specialties.
The duration of training depends on the needs of HMC, the requirements of the Licencing Committee at the Ministry of Public Health, or the specific needs of trainees. HMC provides training for students affiliated with local or global partner universities and colleges in all clinical, healthcare, and administrative domains and in conformance to the best practices in medical professions applicable in Qatar.
