Rawdat Al Khail Park, also known as Al Muntazah Park, is all set to welcome the public with ample green spaces and a number of facilities.
All works are expected to be completed this week and the park, located along C Ring Road and Rawdat Al Khail Street, will be opened soon, according to local Arabic daily Arrayah.
The re-development of one of the oldest parks in Doha, features an 'open plan' and will be without fences. It is spread over an area of about 140,000sqm and includes about 105,000sqm of green spaces.
The Arrayah report states that 1,250 new trees have been planted while pedestrian and bicycle paths with a length of 1,300m have been constructed. These are in addition to providing 401 parking spaces.
The children's play areas will enable the park to serve the physical engagement needs of kids from the surrounding areas and beyond, while sports equipment will help visitors stay in shape and lead an active lifestyle. The authorities have made also special arrangements at the park to serve physically challenged individuals.
The trees that have been planted there are local species, including wild ghaf, samar and sidr. In addition, the park will provide considerable economic benefits as there are large yards that can be used for local companies and community services. Also, kiosks and stalls will sell products and services to visitors.
The works have been carried out while preserving old trees in the park. Though the place was closed some years ago, the Public Parks Department at the Ministry of Municipality has been maintaining the park in order to protect the plants and trees, especially since there are some rare species.
As part of its efforts to provide the public with more green areas that could be used for leisure as well as physical engagements, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) had announced the start of construction works for the Al Gharrafa and Umm Al Saneem parks and the development of Rawdat Al Khail (Al Muntazah) Park in November 2019.
Each park includes children's play areas for age groups of 2-5 years and 6-12 years. There will also be sports equipment in different areas in each park in addition to lanes for joggers and cyclists.
