The population of Qatar increased to 2.81mn at the end of February 2022 from 2.66mn in February 2021 and 2.79mn during January this year, according to data published by the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA). Of the total population of 2,811,774 recorded in February 2022, 2,029353 were males and 782,421 females, the PSA data showed. In terms of growth percentage, Qatar’s population in February this year went up by 5.7% as compared to the same month in 2021 (2,660,788) and by 0.7% as compared to January 2021 (2,791,925).
In the 98th issue of the Qatar Monthly Statistics bulletin, the PSA said a total of 682 traffic cases were recorded in February 2022, showing a monthly decrease of 4.9% and an annual rise of 8.1%. Minor injuries accounted for the vast majority of traffic accident cases during the same month, at 91%, followed by severe injuries at 6%. Also, 22 deaths were recorded, equivalent to 3% of the total traffic accident cases. The PSA said 1,750 live births were registered during February 2022. There was an increase of 2.4% in the total Qatari live births as compared to the previous month. On the other hand, 228 deaths were recorded during the same period, a decrease of 21.9% as compared to January 2022. Moreover, February 2022 saw a monthly increase of 43% and 37.7% in marriage contracts and divorce certificates, respectively. The total number of marriage contracts was 376, whereas the total number of divorces reached 212.
