The Ministry of Transport is taking part in the Smart City Expo Doha 2022 organised under the theme 'Sustaining a Future of Resilience' at Msheireb Downtown Doha. The ministry is exhibiting some of its key transportation and mobility strategies and projects that embrace some of the latest innovative practices that are focused on environmental sustainability and clean technological solutions in such a way that backs the country’s transformation into a smart nation.
The ministry’s booth features the strategy of transiting to electric vehicles, which backs Qatar’s agenda for a greener future by helping in striking an economic-environmental balance in a way that ensures transportation sector’s infrastructure projects sustainability by deploying clean and alternative energy, according to a press statement. Backing this strategy, the ministry is collaborating with the competent entities on the Public Bus Infrastructure Programme, which includes operating eight bus stations and four depots equipped with electric vehicle charging devices, in addition to supplying and
installing over 600 charging devices across the country. It also features the development of 2,700 bus stops distributed in various areas within and outside the city of Doha.
Further, it includes operating Park & Ride parking service near Metro stations. The booth also showcases the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, which combines electrical and mechanical systems to link Lusail and Al Bayt Stadium as a first stage to serve the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 transportation and mobility operations. The BRT system is set to expand to cover other areas that the metro does not. The ministry is also highlighting its studies on the autonomous vehicle (AVs) project that is initially focused on the West Bay area. The project aims to provide a highly efficient mobility system based on smart mobility technologies. The goal is to connect the most vital areas in Qatar.
The ministry is also introducing Sila -- the brand that brings together Qatar’s transportation modes into one network. Currently, it includes the Metro, bus, tram and taxi. The ministry pays great attention to environmental sustainability and assigns high priority to minimising the environmental impacts across all stages of all its land, maritime and air transportation projects.
