Al Sailiya were crowned the Ooredoo Cup champions yesterday when they beat Al Wakrah 5-4 in extra time after both the teams failed to break the 4-4 deadlock in regulation time at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium.
Hani Talib Ballan, the CEO of Qatar Stars League, Thani al-Maliki, CEO of Corporate Services at Ooredoo, and Abdullah al-Mohannadi, Director of Events at Ooredoo, were present at the prize distribution ceremony.
The match was attended by a number of personalities notably retired Italian referee Pierluigi Collina, Chairman of the FIFA Referees Committee, and Abdul Rahman al-Kuwari, President of the Qatar Players Association.
After the original time of the match ended with a 4-4 draw, extra time was used which saw Al Sailiya getting the much-needed winning goal.

Al Wakrah opened the scoring through Mahmoud in the 4th minute. Al Sailiya almost immediately equalised had it not been for Mohamed Salah’s quick thinking soon afterwards.

Five minutes later Al Sailiya added their second goal through Muddathir’s shot from outside the box. Al-Yazidi of Al Wakrah produced the equaliser from outside the Al Sailiya box to score in injury time.
The second half was even more entertaining as a flurry of goals were witnessed. Al Wakrah took five minutes to get the equaliser goal through Congolese forward Dalla in the 56th minute.
Al Sailiya scored their fourth goal in the 60th minute through a slick shot by Carlos but Al Wakrah equalised in the 75th minute from a penalty kick scored by Ibrahimi.
