Qatar University (QU) and The Regional Office at Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), a German institution, signed a memorandum of understanding to establish joint co-operation covering different, scientific, technical and research areas.
QU vice president for Academic Affairs, Dr Omar al-Ansari, and KAS European and International Relations Division head, Dr Gerhard Wahlers, were the signatories.
The two parties agreed to join forces, recognising the vital and effective role that government organisations, think tanks, and government entities play in serving the country and the society, to exchange experiences, exchange information (including research, studies and statistics), conduct studies, hold conferences, meetings and trainings.
Dr al-Ansari said: “There is a lot we can do together for mutual benefit, whether it is research, policy or other areas. We are greatly interested in building sustainable continuing relationships such as this one.”
Dr Wahlers said: “Our foundation has a number of educational centres throughout Germany, we have a very large scholarship programme, with thousands of students and alumni. We also have offices in over 100 countries. The intention is to build solid relationships and networks that last for years and are based on trust. We already have a relationship with Qatar University, but through this memorandum, we can make it more solid. This is a good cornerstone for our activities.”
Dr Mahjoob Zweiri, QU associate professor and director of QU’s Gulf Studies Centre also reflected on the MoU saying: “We thank the Regional Office at Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung for supporting the project of the Gulf Studies Centre, which is a part of the larger vision of Qatar for 2030, as the country is a hub for diplomacy, collaboration, mediation and we are also active in international collaboration.”
