The winners of the 34th Doha Theatre Festival were honoured by HE the Minister of Culture Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad al-Thani on Sunday at the concluding ceremony at Katara - The Cultural Village's Drama Theatre.
HE Sheikh Abdulrahman thanked the participants for their efforts and stressed effective collaboration among the senior artists and the aspiring university students have added to the success of the festival. The Doha Theatre Festival also marked 50 years of Qatari theatre.

The concluding ceremony also coincided with the International Theatre Day as well. The minister said the occasion brings together theatre artists, intellectuals and audience from different social segments and schools of thought to establish the style of dialogue, through which the art form has been known since ages.
He noted that the theatre shapes the issues of the society and take them to the stage in its various dramatic shapes, making the artists the promoters of knowledge and dialogue.
"The social responsibility of the theatre towards the society expands day after day and the Qatari artists have proven over 50 years their ability to communicate with the audience by responding to the challenges and their work to raise the artistic taste and develop social awareness," he said.
HE Sheikh Abdulrahman pointed out that the celebration of the World Theatre Day is to renew the message of the theatre and to stress the importance of discovering new talents, giving opportunity to the young people for theatrical creativity within an atmosphere of communication among generations and experience transfer.
The minister expressed his happiness that globally the theatre movement has started to regain its vibrancy. He expressed confidence that the Qatari theatre movement will continue to be renewed to assume its social and aesthetical mission after the return of the Doha Theatre Festival.
"We are keen to provide the suitable environment to support theatre artists. Let us make theatre a mirror with its issues and hopes, and the dreams of the coming generations. Let the theatre be the school of supreme principles that enhance our national identity and participate in the progress of our society."
The ceremony featured a short documentary on the achievements of the festival and its role in reviving the theatrical movement in the country besides preserving the heritage of the Qatari theatre over the past 50 years, and introducing some of the pioneers who have spearheaded the movement in the country.
A play titled 'Najma Theatre', summed up the history of the development of the Qatari theatre through a special performance with music and dance that was highly appreciated by the audience. Subsequently, a short movie on the founders of the Qatari theatre was screened. The event was attended by a large audience.
