The Ministry of Labour signed yesterday a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on co-operation in the expatriate labour field with the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, represented by the Swiss Agency for Co-operation and Development (SDC). HE the Minister of Labour Dr Ali bin Saeed bin Smaikh al-Marri signed the MoU. Federal Department of Foreign Affairs State Secretary of Switzerland Livia Leu signed the MoU on behalf of SDC.
After signing the MoU, the two sides reviewed aspects of joint co-operation in the employment field and ways to support and develop them.
The signing of the MoU comes within the framework of the co-operation strategy between Qatar and Switzerland in the field of employment and the improvement of the legal framework for better protection of migrant workers. It is also a culmination of the efforts made by Qatar to develop and modernise the labour sector during the past years, which included several important legislation for employment.
The memorandum aims to enhance co-operation between the Ministry of Labour and the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs in the labour fields through exchanging expertise, experiences, and consultations on implementation and development mechanisms. Under the MoU, the two parties will exchange information, experiences, and best practices in the field of expatriate workers at the local, national, regional, and global levels, in addition to exchanging information on strategies, policies, and regulations, as well as projects implemented in accordance with the policies, applicable laws, and internal procedures of both parties.
According to the MoU, the co-operation focuses on various areas, including labour administration, the labour market, enforcement of labour laws, and women’s participation in the workforce. SDC is affiliated with the Federal Department of Foreign in Switzerland and aims to co-ordinate Switzerland’s efforts in development, activities, and co-operation fields at the international level.
