Qatar Chamber held a virtual meeting Wednesday to review investment opportunities in Turkey’s technology and tourism sector.
The meeting was presided over by Qatar Chamber first vice chairman Mohamed bin Towar al-Kuwari and A Burak Daglioglu, the president of the Investment Office of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey.
The meeting, which was attended by Turkish ambassador Mustafa Goksu and a number of leading businessmen from both countries, discussed ways to enhance co-operation in the tourism and technology sectors, as well as other opportunities on both sides.
Al-Kuwari lauded the close relations between both countries “in all fields,” especially in the economic and commercial aspects. He noted that Turkey is “one of the most important” trade partners of Qatar; both countries’ trade volume stood at QR6.8bn last year, he said.
On mutual investments, al-Kuwari said there are many Turkish companies operating in Qatar’s various sectors, such as trading, contracting, construction, health sector, services, technology, industry hospitality, and furnishing.
Al-Kuwari stressed that Turkey is “a distinguished destination” for Qatari investors, pointing out that there are many successful Qatari investments there in many sectors, such as real estate and tourism.
He said Qatar Chamber highly supports the call for Qatari businessmen to increase their investments in Turkey and enhance co-operation with their Turkish counterparts by forging alliances and partnerships whether in Qatar or Turkey. He called on Turkish companies to maximise their investments in Qatar and benefit from its “sophisticated infrastructure” and pro-investment environment.
Da?l?o?lu also invited Qataris to pour investments in Turkey, which enjoys an attractive investment climate. He noted that there are numerous incentives and facilities to attract Qatari investors in all sectors.
He lauded the “robust relations” between both countries, noting that over the recent year many Qataris invested in the real estate and tourism sectors. Daglioglu also invited Qatari investors to visit Tourism Investment Forum 2022, which is the largest event in this sector in Turkey.
He also stressed that about $1.6bn worth of investments were generated by entrepreneurs in Turkey last year, 90% of which are foreign direct investments.
Goksu said there is a significant interest from both sides to develop trade and investment cooperation. The ambassador also said there are many incentives for Qataris, pointing out that a number of representatives in the Investment Office are appointed to help Qatari investors who are willing to invest in Turkey.
