Qatar University (QU) will gradually start extra-curricular activities at the campus adhering to all required precautionary measures, announced Abdullah al-Mulla, director of the student activities department.
According to al-Mulla, the management of the student activities department contributes to the university's academic objectives by promoting comprehensive educational expertise, developing programmes and activities that improve student growth, learning and leadership.
The director noted that students rely on the experimental learning approach to its programmes, which extend beyond the semester's boundaries through a variety of co-operative and non-systematic programmes.
“Communication, goal-setting, financial management, marketing, promotion and most importantly making life at the university pleasurable, engaging, and memorable are all vital aspects of campus experience,” he explained.
Al- Mulla stated that the students activities department has four main sections to support and integrate students' experiences in curricular and extracurricular activities.
“Each one of them has a specialisation that it undertakes towards student life, academic and university education. We seek programmes and activities through these departments, and we are an important component of the overall student experience and success, as they supplement classified experiences and increase scientific, social, cultural, and professional competence,” he continued.
The director said that there are 85 clubs and student groups at QU with educational, cultural and recreational objectives, as well as specialised clubs helping the humanitarian community. Inside and outside the university campus, a variety of activities and events are planned in collaboration with national and international agencies and institutions.
These student clubs and organisations have a total membership of almost 17,000.
The official said that there are many student programmes and groups at the university and the department plans to establish new student clubs and organisations such as the Chess Club, Aircraft Club, League of Business Leaders in Engineering, Beit al-Hikma Club among others.
The official added that the new student affairs building includes all departments affiliated with the student affairs sector. “This building includes many facilities like, halls, and sites in which activities at a high level are scheduled to be transmitted around the world,” he added.
