The Laboratory Animal Research Centre (LARC) at Qatar University (QU) recently conducted an online workshop on 'Xenograft tumour models for cancer research: a relevant pre-clinical platform'.
The workshop was conducted in collaboration with Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF). It aimed to focus on the relevance of Xenograft rodent animal models in cancer research, and address the new technologies used in cancer therapy.
A group of local and international speakers participated in this workshop:
* Dr Shahab Uddin - a principal research scientist and head of Molecular Pathophysiology Core at Translational Research Institute, Hamad Medical Corporation, Qatar. He is also an adjunct professor of Cancer Biology at LARC, Qatar University.
* Dr Balaji Ramachandran - a lead scientist heading the in-vivo oncology group and managing anticancer therapeutic programmes at Syngene International Foundation, India.
* Dr Mohamed Haris - a lead scientist in the research department at Sidra Medicine and an adjunct professor of Cancer Biology at LARC, QU.
* Dr Allal Ouhtit - a professor of Biology and Functional Genomics within the Department of Biological & Environmental Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, QU.
* Dr Fatemeh Darakhshan-Rassam - a Biomedical Sciences and Health Technical Programme manager at QNRF.
Dr Hamda al-Naemi, founder and director of LARC, who highlighted the centre's potential, which supports the consolidation of local and international efforts in cancer research for human health benefits.
The workshop was attended by a number of people interested in cancer research within the country.
