The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) yesterday celebrated the 43rd anniversary of its founding.
The QOC, which was founded on March 14, 1979, has played an important role in raising sports awareness in the country and developing Olympic Movement in accordance with principles of Olympic Charter.
As a result of the intense efforts in the last four decades, the Qatari sports movement has reached new heights over the last 43 years and achieved a huge number of achievements including the two gold medals and a bronze medal the team Qatar athletes won at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics.
The Qatari capital of Doha has also hosted and delivered some major sports events to become the sports capital of the region in line of the QOC vision.
The QOC has been always keen to keep up with the development of sports movement around the world by organising different types of training programmes to develop the skills of its employees and enrich their professional experiences.
These programmes come in light of the QOC’s strategic goal to create an ideal environment for attracting, developing and maintaining the best talents and expertise. Moreover, the competence programme aims at training national cadres of the QOC to prepare them to assume senior supervisory positions and become alternative leaders to maintain proper functioning of the QOC operations. The QOC also holds “Talent Management Program” which aims to develop a database for the second grade to ensure that the supervisory functions approved within the organisational structure of QOC are secured, to promote concepts of excellence, to motivate all its staff to participate in them, to encourage positive competition among them and to develop their creativity, which reflect positively on institutional performance.
The QOC training agenda also includes “Cadres Program” which helps develop the specialised skills of sports administrators and prepare the young Qatari cadres to be able to manage local, regional and international sports events. To strengthen its parentship with the other entities in the state of Qatar, the QOC signed a memorandum of understanding with Qatar Armed Forces to develop sport in our nation.
Recently the QOC also signed another MoU with Doha Institute for Graduate Studies to train its senior officials, and an agreement with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education to boost their common efforts in the fields of physical and sports activities.
The QOC also signed a partnership agreement with Msheireb Properties to strengthen the co-operation between the two organisations in several areas including sports, institutional and community fields.
On the celebration of QOC’s journey and achievements, the QOC Secretary-General HE Jassim bin Rashid al-Buenain reaffirmed that the QOC is keen, as per the directives of its President HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani, to improve internal QOC’s structure and to create the ideal work environment in line with Qatar 2030 National Vision. Al-Buenain also thanked the QOC employees for their efforts as they are the driving force behind all accomplishments that QOC has achieved over the past years.
For her part, Maryam Mohamed al-Kuwari, Director of the QOC Human Resources and Administrative Affairs Department, said that developing the employees is a priority for the QOC as the human resources development is the secret behind the success of any organization.
