Qatar team is eyeing a strong performance at the 24th GCC Golf Championship, which begins in Abu Dhabi on Monday.
On Sunday, Qatar squad left for the tournament, which will conclude on March 17. All the GCC countries are taking part in the event, offering team and individual titles.
Qatar team includes Ali Abdullah al-Shahrani, Saleh Ali al-Kaabi, Jaham Jassim al-Kuwari, and Abdul Rahman Abdullah al-Shahrani. Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Ali Saud al-Thani and Hamad Nidal Asaad will feature in the youth category.
Secretary-General of the Qatar Golf Association Fahd bin Nasser al-Nuaimi, who is heading the Qatari contingent, was expecting a tough competition.
“It will be a strong competition especially among golfers from Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain,” he said. “Qatar team is determined to do well and we are hoping for a successful event,” he added. In Egypt last December, al-Kaabi clinched the silver medal at the Arab Golf Championship, a month after the national team secured top three places in the Oman Open Golf Championship in Muscat, with al-Kaabi winning the title.
