Jessica Waldon clinched the overall title in style with a victory in the sixth and final round of the Longines Hathab Dressage Tour on Thursday.
At the Longines Arena at Al Shaqab, Waldon astride stallion San Francisco won with an aggregate average of 66.923% in the Medium (Level 1) event. Jassim Al Jaham al-Kuwari on Miss Chili finished runner-up with 64.423%.
The final podium spot went to Maryam Ahmad al-Boinin on Silvan with 64.103%, while Saoud Ahmed al-Boinin finished fourth astride Leslie Ann 2 with 60.834%.
In the Prelim Level 2 class, Khalid Sanad al-Nuaimi bagged the top two places. Al-Nuaimi took the top spot with Gop Stop after registering an aggregate average of 67.885%. He also took the runner-up place partnering Green on 67.789%. Jassim Mohamed Al Fahd al-Kuwari finished third with Leslie Ann 2 on 67.788%.
Qatar’s top dressage rider Wejdan Majed al-Malki, the first Arab rider to participate in an international 5-star dressage championship, and Ali Yousef al-Rumaihi, Director of Longines Tours Hathab and Secretary-General of the Qatar Equestrian Federation crowned the winners.
Meanwhile, al-Rumaihi said he was pleased with success of the dressage competition. “The presence of a large number of fans has motivated the riders to give their best, which I am confident will herald a better future for the Olympic sport. I hope Qatar riders will participate in dressage at the Paris 2024 Olympics,” al-Rumaihi, a former showjumping rider, said.
He also praised the Qatari rider Khalid Sanad Al-Nuaimi for his impressive display yesterday. “Khalid is one of the best new riders this season and in every participation he has surprises us with his performance. He has a bright future and we hope that he will continue to develop his skills and excel," the official said.
Al-Rumaihi also extended his thanks and appreciation to the former international rider Omar al-Mannai, Vice-Chairman of the Supreme Organizing Committee of the Championship and Commercial Director of Al Shaqab, for his continuous efforts to attract fans to Al Shaqab.
