NAWIC Qatar, the first National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) in the Middle East, and its members celebrated International Women’s Day with a site visit of Qetaifan Island North on the afternoon of March 8.
Around 25 NAWIC attendees were able to visit the multiple-award-winning development located in the north of Lusail, under the guidance of engineer Mustafa from Qetaifan Projects.
The group was picked up from the Katara Hospitality headquarters by a minibus and allowed to take pictures of the water park, the main attraction on the island along with its edutainment ride inspired by the oil discovery in Qatar.
During the 90-minute tour, NAWIC members, made up of women of varied nationalities working in the building industry, were able to learn various aspects in the construction process of this man-made island, which will sport a hotel, retail buildings, villas and apartments, in addition to recreational facilities such as a beach club, linear park and canal, and a mosque at its entrance.
The impact of the visit on NAWIC members has been very positive as everyone left with a feeling of awe and inspiration as well as with flowers and goodie bags.
NAWIC president Billie Teshich shared her impressions: “NAWIC members are truly delighted to be able to visit such a prestigious project already awarded as 'Best Mixed-Use Development – Arabia' and 'Best Sustainable Residential Development – Arabia', as well as 'World's Best Mixed-Use Development' among 120 nominated companies in the real estate development sector. This is our first event for 2022, and it’s been a huge success."
She also spoke about the origins of feminism and thanked the organisers at Qetaifan Projects and NAWIC board member Carly-Jane Figgis for working hand-in-hand for this event on International Women’s Day.
