HE the Minister of State for Energy Affairs Saad Sherida al-Kaab signs Net-Zero Producers Forum’s Terms of Reference
Qatar joined its partners in the Net-Zero Producers Forum (NPF) in signing its Terms of Reference (ToR), officially launching the forum with the objective of helping to achieve net-zero emissions while supporting a sustainable and secure energy future.
HE the Minister of State for Energy Affairs, Saad Sherida al-Kaabi, signed the ToR in a special ceremony in Houston, Texas, along with Jennifer M. Granholm, the Secretary of Energy of the United States, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, Minister of Energy, Saudi Arabia, Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Natural Resources, Canada, and Amund Vik, Deputy Minister of Petroleum Resources of Norway.
The signing sets the stage for greater efforts towards developing and deploying clean-energy and carbon capture and storage technologies, diversification from reliance on hydrocarbon revenues, and other measures in line with each member country's national circumstances.
The Net-Zero Producers Forum was announced in April 2021 by Qatar, the United States, Saudi Arabia, Canada, and Norway, who collectively represent 40% of global oil and gas production.
This cooperative forum will also seek ways to formulate and enhance the actions producing countries can take to accelerate technology deployment that meaningfully advances members’ clean-energy transition goals and enhances international cooperation to abate fossil fuel GHG emissions to the maximum extent possible.
Qatar’s engagement in this forum is an important mission consistent with, and supported by, its ambition to create a better and more sustainable future for humanity.
Qatar continues to implement key emission mitigation strategies and take concrete actions to reduce its carbon footprint and meet its climate targets by introducing carbon capture and storage technologies, as well as other actions including methane abatement, energy efficiency programs and renewable energy expansion.
