The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced the completion of all landscaping works and construction of roads surrounding Legtaifiya station with a length of 2.2km, and opened them to traffic.

The works are part of the Road Improvement Works in Various Areas in Greater Doha project (Phase 6), and include a shared pedestrian and bicycle path, planting of trees and green spaces around the station.

The new roads provide two entrances to Legtaifiya station: the first is from Lusail Road and the second is from Pearl Road, Ashghal has said in a statement. These roads contribute to facilitating access to the station as well as health and recreational facilities in the area.
This opening comes as part of Ashghal’s efforts to develop the transportation network in Qatar, enhance the integration between the road network and the rail network, and facilitate traffic. The new roads serve Legtaifiya station, which is part of the the Doha Metro Red Line and the recently opened Lusail Tram network.

The authority had previously opened part of the roads with the start of the Doha Metro Red Line operations earlier to serve the station and its users.
Mooza Mohamed al-Sowaidi, head of the Doha City Section in the Roads Projects Department, said Ashghal was keen to speed up the pace of work to complete the first phase of road works to coincide with the start of operation of the Doha Metro Red Line, and to complete all works - including roads, beautification, parking lots and others - with the opening of the first phase of the Lusail Tram services at Legtaifiya station.
Al-Sowaidi added that the importance of the project lies in strengthening the connection with both the Metro and Tram lines and facilitating access to them, in addition to enhancing the integration between the road network and the public transport network.

In addition to the implementation of road works with a length of 2.2km, a 3.3km shared pedestrian and bicycle path has been provided along with 192 trees, in addition to 17,000sqm of green spaces. The area around Legtaifiya station has been provided with facilities such as seating for visitors and parking for bicycles.
This comes as part of Ashghal’s efforts to increase green areas and encouraging exercise in green spaces.
The project also includes the implementation of infrastructure works, including about 1.2km of a sewage network, and 2km of surface and storm water drainage lines, in addition to 1km of treated water lines to be used for irrigation.
Further, the works include the provision of advanced lighting systems, as 48 street lighting poles have been installed, in addition to 272 LED lights on the floors and the stairs in the area surrounding the station to give an aesthetic look to the green area in general.
In addition, 210 parking spaces have been provided, as well as crossings for people with special needs.
In the context of supporting local materials and manufacturers, the percentage of local materials used in the project accounted for 80% of the total works. Materials and elements such as lighting poles, lamps, directional boards, traffic signs, sewage pipes, rainwater drainage, asphalt and prefabricated manholes were supplied, in addition to concrete, rebar and others.
The project is part of a series of projects implemented by Ashghal within its plan to develop and improve the roads and infrastructure in different areas of the country and areas of citizens' subdivisions. This plan includes projects aimed at improving the roads network and some elements of
infrastructure, and others aiming at developing an integrated infrastructure, according to the needs of each area and the nature of the existing
infrastructure.
These projects contribute to facilitating traffic movement in the area, enhancing the connectivity between them, and increasing the capacity of roads and infrastructure networks in order to keep pace with the future urban and economic growth of the country.
