The State of Qatar will host the seventh General Conference of the Arab Union of Electricity from March 20-22, organized by the Union in cooperation with Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (), under the title 'Towards a common vision to achieve a promising future for electricity in the Arab world.'

In a speech to mark the occasion, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Arab Union of Electricity Eng. Abdel Rahim Hafidi said that the seventh General Conference is an occasion to achieve cooperation, exchange experiences and gain knowledge between specialists and workers in Arab and international electrical systems among Arab countries.

It will also enable the strengthening of partnerships with international organizations with expertise and the convergence of visions and goals to ensure the continuity of development in the electricity sectors in the Arab world in terms of technical, economic, social, environmental, legislative and regulatory aspects, and the establishment of a culture of sustainable development in the electric power sector in the Arab world.

Chairman Eng. Abdel Rahim Hafidi stressed the Unions keenness to develop the work of its members, coordinate among them, and contribute to achieving technical, administrative, economic and environmental integration among the Arab countries, as well as hold various events that would enhance the exchange of experiences and spread the benefit among its members in the field of electric energy in the Arab world.

Every three years, the Arab Union of Electricity holds its conferences, indicating its constant keenness to develop its diversified works in line with the rapid development of technology in all fields, especially in the sector of generation, transmission and distribution of electric power, he added.

Among the most important topics to be discussed are the policies and strategies of the electricity sector in the Arab world, reality and future prospects, prospects for keeping pace with the electric power sector in the Arab world for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the role of new and renewable energies in developing the economy and preserving the environment in Arab countries, and prospects for the Arab common market for electricity and interconnection projects.

The conference aims to enhance cooperation, exchange experiences and gain knowledge between specialists and workers in Arab and international electrical systems between Arab countries on the one hand, and strengthening partnerships with international organizations with expertise on the other.

It also aims to bring together visions and goals in order to continue development in the electricity sectors in the Arab world from the technical, economic, social, environmental, legislative and regulatory aspects, to enable decision makers to coordinate plans and strategies among member states and to establish a culture of sustainable development in the electric power sector in the Arab world.

The conference also seeks to strengthen partnerships with foreign countries and openness to benefiting from advanced technologies and systems in the production, transmission and distribution of electricity and the management of control over electrical interconnection networks and smart networks, and seeks to provide the physical infrastructure and appropriate legislative and regulatory frameworks to encourage the establishment of a common Arab market for electricity.
