The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) and Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to co-operate in the areas of education, scientific research, and community development.
The MoU’s scope of work includes exchanging professional expertise in computer science, information systems, information technology, and next-generation technologies and co-operating in the areas of education and training, providing training courses to build the capacity regarding the Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6).
This provides a larger number of internet addresses, which in turn enable internet growth and is a key enabler for fifth-generation technology (5G) and the Internet of Things (IoT).
The scope also includes co-operating in the fields of scientific research and strategic studies, developing related standards, guidelines, research, and reports. Additionally, it encourages the use of the Qatari internet domains between students and teachers at HBKU, facilitating and supporting the IPv6 transition and implementation at HBKU’s network, and jointly organising specialised conferences, seminars, and workshops for community development.
“Through the MoU, we look forward to enhancing co-ordination and co-operation between the CRA and HBKU, which is in line with our keenness to co-operate with academia to exchange experiences, build and develop the skills and capacities of workers in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) field, conduct strategic studies, and develop relevant standards, which contribute to the development of the ICT sector.
"I would like to thank HBKU for their co-operation with us, and we look forward to start working with them within the MoU framework to achieve our common goals,” CRA’s Technical Affairs Department director Ali al-Suwaidi said in a press statement.
“We are pleased to sign the MoU, which will open new doors of co-operation and co-ordination between the HBKU and the CRA, through which we seek to build capacities by providing specialised knowledge and relevant practical training through ICT specialised conferences, seminars, workshops, and training courses, which contribute to achieving one of the objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030; educational curricula and training programmes responding to the current and future needs of the labour market.
“We also thank the CRA for their continued co-operation, and we look forward to benefiting all parties from the MoU,” HBKU’s College of Science and Engineering founding dean Dr Mounir Hamdi said.
