Officials of Qatar Chamber and Oman’s Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion held a meeting Tuesday to discuss ways to enhance co-operation relations.
During the meeting, Qatar Chamber chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim al-Thani and Aseela bint Salem al-Samsamia, undersecretary of Oman’s Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, reviewed the fields of joint economic and commercial cooperation.
They also discussed ways to enhance these relations, especially at the level of the private sector and the role it can perform to develop mutual investments and take both countries’ trade exchange to higher levels.
The meeting, which was also attended by Qatar Chamber board member Ibtihaj al-Ahmadani and Oman’s ambassador to Qatar, Najib bin Yahya al-Balushi, tackled the possibility of holding a Qatari-Omani Business Forum in Oman with the participation of businessmen and investors from both sides to discuss the investment climate, available opportunities, and the possibility of establishing joint ventures.
Sheikh Khalifa said the level of cooperation between the Qatari and Omani private sector witnessed significant development over the past few years, noting that trade volume in 2021 stood at nearly QR4.5bn.
According to the certificates of origin issued by the chamber, he said Oman topped the destinations that received Qatari private sector exports last year. Sheikh Khalifa said this confirms the close relations between the private sectors of both countries.
Sheikh Khalifa said there are more than 200 Omani companies operating in Qatar with 100% Omani ownership and about 200 Omani companies with Qatari partners in various sectors, such as trade, contracting, services, hospitality, energy, and maintenance.
Al-Samsamia stressed the need to further cement commercial cooperation between both sides, especially at the level of the private sector. She said there are substantial opportunities for investment in Oman in various sectors, such as manufacturing, renewable energy, agriculture, and others.
She stressed that Oman offers many incentives to attract foreign investments in all sectors and that Qatari investors willing to invest in Oman “will gain considerable incentives and advantages.”
Al-Ahmadani underscored the importance of enhancing cooperation between businesswomen in both countries, citing the vital role played by the Qatari Businesswomen Forum in underpinning the role of Qatari women in the national economy.
She explained that the past few years witnessed an increase in commercial and investment activities, and hoped that businesswomen from Qatar and Oman would forge joint ventures and partnerships.
