The Ministry of Municipality, represented by the Department of Agricultural Affairs, has completed the project to purchase and receive local dates for the 2021 agricultural season, from holders of registered date-producing farms.
In this regard, 816 tonnes were received from 76 farms this year.
The project, which began in 2006, with an annual allocation of QR10mn, comes within the framework of the Ministry of Municipality's keenness to support farmers by diversifying marketing outlets for the local agricultural product, especially local dates of all kinds.

The project is considered one of the most important marketing outlets alongside outlets like holding annual festivals and events for dates, whether local or international, with the aim of encouraging local farmers develop their production in terms of quantity and raising the production efficiency of this vital product.

The Department of Agricultural Affairs received the mentioned quantity through a specialised technical team that inspected the same and selected the products, based on their condition and technical specifications, in co-operation with one of the local factories specialised in the manufacture and packaging of dates.
A portion of the produce was allocated for marketing through consumer complexes, as well as granting a certain portion to Qatar charitable organisations, Qatar Charity and Qatar Red Crescent Society, to distribute it inside or outside Qatar to some beneficiaries.
