Officials from Qatar Chamber and Committee for External Relations of Saint-Petersburg Government recently held a meeting at the chamber’s Doha headquarters to discuss ways to enhance economic and commercial ties.
Qatar Chamber first vice chairman Mohamed bin Towar al-Kuwari met with Arbi Abubakarov, the deputy chairman of the Committee for External Relations of Saint-Petersburg and the head of Russia’s Foreign Economic Co-operation Department.
They were joined by Giunel Ismailova, the director of International Business Development at Ginza Project during the meeting, which touch on commercial and economic relations between Qatar and Russia and ways to enhance them, in addition to the investment opportunities available in Saint-Petersburg in various sectors.
During the meeting, al-Kuwari underscored the robust relations between Qatar and Russia in all fields, saying that Qatari businessmen and investors are eager to learn about the opportunities available in Russia, particularly in Saint-Petersburg.
Al-Kuwari also noted that Saint-Petersburg is a leading destination for investment. He assured that representatives of Russian and Qatari private sectors will exchange visits after the pandemic to further develop co-operation and explore opportunities available in both countries, and forge active partnerships.
Speaking on the occasion, Abubakarov lauded the significant development witnessed by Qatar across all fields, especially in the preparations for the hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He noted that both sides can exchange expertise in this respect as Russia hosted a successful edition of the tournament in 2018.
Abubakarov also praised Qatar’s participation in the St Petersburg International Economic Forum 2021, in which Qatar was the guest country.
He also said Qatar is a leading country in foreign investments and that there are numerous Qatari investments in Russia and in St Petersburg. He also hopes to see more investments in sectors, such as agriculture, hospitality, and real estate development.
