Director-General of Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS) Yerlan Baidaulet has praised the great role played by Qatar in organising the IOFS Strategic Commodities and Food Safety Forum, which began in Doha on Monday. In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Baidaulet appreciated the wide support that the IOFS received from Qatar, explaining that the organisation of the forum in Doha is of historical importance because it is first physical event since the emergence of Covid-19, pointing out that previous events were held virtually.
He stressed Qatar's great role in activating and implementing the IOFS' programmes and enhancing its profitability through its great keenness to achieve food security through distinguished partnerships between the 36 Islamic countries affiliated with the organisation. Qatar plays a very important role in ensuring food security in many countries and is working to implement the IOFS' plans and objectives.
The organisation considers Qatar an effective and important partner among its 36 members, Baidaulet emphasised, indicating that he discussed with a number of Qatari officials plans related to the future strategies of the organisation and the strengthening of partnership and co-operation between the two sides. The IOFS Director-General indicated that the organisation relies a lot on Qatar's investment power in implementing many of the programs they are keen to carry out by encouraging the various food industries in the countries affiliated with the organisation and the co-operation of these countries with each other on the economic and investment levels with the aim of strengthening solidarity between them.
He added that Qatar is a leading country in international solidarity and does not hesitate to help many afflicted peoples that know difficult living conditions such as Afghanistan, Yemen and Somalia. It is also a pioneer in food security, placing 24th globally in the Global Food Security Index.
This reflects the success of its plans in this field, causing the IOFS to rely on the State in this field to benefit from its experience and to strengthen co-operation with it in the field of food security at many levels, such as halal food, food production chain, production development plans, developing research and sciences related to this field and other measures, he added.
On the recommendations that can emerge from the IOFS Strategic Commodities and Food Safety Forum and ways to invest them to achieve food security in the IOFS countries, IOFS Director-General said that many new measures will be adopted, most notably a common platform among the IOFS countries to exchange information, experiences and ideas in order to activate joint production programmes between them, stressing the great role that Qatar will play in promoting the platform due to the great experience it possesses in the field.
A number of experts and trainers from the IOFS are participating in the three-day forum. Tuesday's sessions discussed the IOFS's vision and its methodology for the development of strategic commodities, and the formulation of a draft additional work plan for each of the strategic commodities.
