As part of Qatar University’s (QU) endeavours to bring its services closer to students and answer their most important queries related to their studies, curricula and its developments, president Dr Hassan bin Rashid al-Derham held a virtual meeting via the WebEx platform.
Dr al-Derham touched on all issues of interest to QU students, whether it is related to acceptance merits at the university, the development of new buildings, ending virtual education and returning to the campus.
The president explained that QU's strategy, which began to take its course from 2015 and 2016, has many goals, including: solving the observed problems in the educational process, the academic difficulties that Qatari students face in particular, the attempt to reduce their graduation period, solving the problem of Qatari students’ regarding the discipline of their choice and increasing the number of Qatari male students.
Dr al-Derham stated that one of the most important objectives is to inculcate and promote the values of social responsibility, innovation, academic integrity and diversity and aiming to be a compass that guides the university student towards achieving his goals.
Answering a question regarding the future of distance education at QU after the pandemic, he explained the importance of face-to-face education for students, and that virtual education was adopted as a solution to continue the learning process in the interim period. The new buildings on QU campus will receive students during the next academic year.
The students also raised the issue of the lack of food outlets for boys compared to cafeterias in the female campus. Dr al-Derham announced that the administration is currently working to increase cafes and restaurants for male students and kiosks will soon be opened in the yard of the boys building.
Finally, QU president urging the students to take advantage of their time on campus to benefit from the research programmes and grants offered by the university. He asked the students to work hard to achieve a better future.
