Qatar's National Sport Day (NSD) reflects Doha's interest in sports and the health of society, its role in building human well-being and its impact on all areas of life, Turkish ambassador Dr Mustafa Goksu has said.
"It is a great occasion to raise awareness of the importance of doing exercises as a part of everyday life," the envoy said in a statement on Monday.
"Sports is an important way for humans to maintain a healthy life. At the same time, it is the most appropriate asset for disease control,” Goksu noted. “As the coronavirus (Covid-19) epidemic continues to spread around the world, sports has become increasingly important to us to strengthen our immunity."
“Sport Day is crucial in this exceptional circumstance, it is the only outlet for most people and I am one of them,” he added.
"Celebrating my second National Sport Day in Qatar, I would like to appreciate this initiative and unique event once again, which is also in line with Qatar’s ambitions to organise the 2022 World Cup,” the envoy said.
On the occasion of this year's NSD, the Turkish embassy – in co-operation with other embassies – is organising sporting activities with the participation of embassy staff and Turkish community members.
"Football games are among the activities this year, and we hope that in the future there will be more programmes to work on," Goksu added.
