The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), in co-operation and co-ordination with the Ministry of Labour, has announced a new decision setting the maximum charges for the recruitment of domestic workers.
The ministries said in a statement on Monday that the decision comes within the framework of their joint efforts to control and combat the rise in the costs of recruiting domestic workers, in accordance with specific controls that protect all parties concerned.
Under the decision, the maximum rates for recruiting domestic workers will be as follows: QR17,000 from Indonesia; QR16,000 from Sri Lanka; QR15,000 from the Philippines; QR14,000 from Bangladesh and India; and QR9,000 from Kenya and Ethiopia.
According to the competence of each ministry, inspection campaigns will be intensified in order to ensure compliance of domestic labour recruitment agencies in the country with the decision, to monitor the extent to which those concerned with the decision comply with their stipulated obligations, the statement stressed.
Earlier in January, the Ministry of Labour announced the start of implementation of additional procedures for recruitment agencies, which included extending the preliminary probation period for workers from three months to nine months.
“All competent authorities, each within its own jurisdiction, shall implement this decision, which shall come into force from the day following the date of its publication in the Official Gazette,” the MoCI said in a related notice on social media.
In the statement, the ministries urged citizens and residents to report any abuse or violation by the domestic labour recruitment agencies through the call centre: 16001, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry's social media accounts - Twitter: MOCIQATAR, and Instagram: MOCIQATAR; or the Ministry of Labour via Twitter: molqtr, and Instagram: molqtr
