As part of ongoing efforts to protect the marine environment and preserve biodiversity, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC), represented by the Marine Protection Department, detected several "gargour” type fishing traps that had been left in the sea. This discovery was made during a field inspection tour near the islands north of Doha city.Field inspection teams immediately began retrieving and impounding these fishing tools while taking the necessary legal actions. The ministry emphasised that neglecting fishing gear in the sea is one of the most prominent practices threatening the marine environment and its biodiversity. It stressed the importance of fishermen using fishing tools responsibly and sustainably to ensure the preservation and protection of natural resources. The ministry also called on all seagoers and fishermen to co-operate and abide by the applicable environmental instructions and regulations, reflecting community awareness of the importance of protecting the marine environment.
