The second joint campaign to remove abandoned cars was launched in a number of areas of Doha Municipality on Sunday morning.
The campaign is being implemented by the committee concerned with the removal of abandoned vehicles and the departments of Mechanical Equipment and General Cleanliness at the Ministry of Municipality, in co-operation with Doha Municipality and Lekhwiya.
This comes as part of the continuous efforts of the ministry to remove abandoned vehicles with the aim of preserving the aesthetic appeal of the state and limiting this phenomenon that distorts the general view, in implementation of Law No. 18 of 2017 on public hygiene, in addition to the health and environmental damage it causes.
The campaign launch was attended by Hamad Sultan al-Shahwani, head of the General Control Department at Doha Municipality and a committee member, Captain Turki Sherida al-Kaabi from the General Directorate of Traffic and a committee member, and a number of Doha Municipality officials.
On this occasion, al-Shahwani stressed that the campaign targets the administrative limits of Doha Municipality, and that this is the second campaign this year to remove abandoned cars and equipment in the country, after covering the entire Al Rayyan Municipality.
He said that about 300 abandoned cars were detected in Doha Municipality, and work is under way to remove them over two consecutive weeks.
The committee will also work to monitor all neglected vehicles in the municipality during the campaign period.
Three campaigns have been allocated to each municipality this year.
Al-Shahwani informed that over the first two weeks of the year, 523 vehicles were removed from different areas of Al Rayyan Municipality.
After Doha Municipality the campaign will move to Umm Salal Municipality, following which municipalities in the northern regions will be covered.
