The joint tactical exercise for the GCC security services, Arab Gulf Security 3, kicked off on Saturday at the Eastern Region of Saudi Arabia, with the participation of Qatar and security forces from all member states.
Saudi Assistant Minister of Interior for Operations Affairs Gen Saeed bin Abdullah al-Qahtani said the exercise is being carried out with the blessing of the GCC leaders, based on the decision taken by the GCC interior ministers to conduct the exercise, explaining that the participation of the security services of the GCC countries reflects the keenness on preparing and qualifying their cadres at home and abroad.
Gen al-Qahtani underlined that the GCC countries share common fate and security, adding that border guards and coast guards were added to this year's edition.
He noted that the exercise includes activities and events that simulate all the assumptions and security risks that any of the GCC states may be exposed to.
The launch ceremony started with a review of the participating security forces, followed by a speech by the commander of the exercise, Maj Gen Shaye bin Salem al-Wadani, who confirmed the completion of preparations of the participating forces to launch joint exercises and activities, which aim to strengthen the bonds of co-operation between the GCC countries in the security field and boost the level of co-ordination and readiness of the security forces to address all the threats and dangers facing the Arab Gulf region.
