While treating symptoms caused by Covid-19, it is not preferable to give ibuprofen to the elderly, people with chronic ailments and those with kidney disease, a senior health official has said.
Dr Muna al-Maslamani, medical director of the Communicable Disease Center at Hamad Medical Corporation, told Qatar TV that this is due to concerns over kidney functioning.
According to information available online, ibuprofen is a medication in the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug class that is used for treating pain, fever and inflammation.
Meanwhile, Dr al-Maslamani saie the prevalence of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 is four times greater than that of the Delta variant.
For Omicron, the occurrence of symptoms happens within the first three days, while Delta's symptoms appear after four days, Dr al-Maslamani said while explaining the similarities and differences between the symptoms of Omicron and other strains of the coronavirus.
Symptoms of the original strain and that of the Delta are similar. But Omicron has similarities and differences. The similarities are fever, headache, cough, fatigue, muscle ache, fatigue and exhaustion. Delta and the original strain cause infections in the lower respiratory tract.
Omicron mainly causes congestion in the pharynx and makes it itchy like in a person with allergies, plus a dry and strong cough and of course asthenia, Dr al-Maslamani added.
